Wizkid, Falz, Lil Kesh grab 2016 Outstanding Young Achievers Awards nominees

Music star personalities like Wizkid, Lil Kesh, Falz, O.C Ukeje and Linda Ikeji,  including others have emerged nominees for the 2016 Outstanding Young Achievers (OYA) awards as shown in the full list of nominations recently unveiled. Wizkid   They were nominated by the general public into various categories. Of the 20 categories listed, 19 were open for nominations by the public. OYA awards, however, reserves the right to arbitrarily nominate candidates for one category (Person of the Year). For the 19 open categories, thousands of entries were received across the country and already voting started immediately via the awards’ website and will end on November 10, 2016. Themed MOVING FORWARD, the 2016 OYA awards is its second edition, with the aim of the awards being not only to create a platform that celebrates the most outstanding young achievers in Nigeria and beyond (under 35 years of age), but also to support these individuals and many others in more ways than one.

Angry secondary school students set classrooms ablaze over mass failure

Today, blocks of classrooms were set ablaze in Oyo, Oyo State, marking the worst phase of secondary school students’ unrest that began days ago over mass failure in exams, PremiumTimes reports. The classrooms set on fire were at Isale Community High School, Oyo Town. But students elsewhere have threatened to cause similar damage to public property in their schools. Crisis erupted on Monday following mass failure in the last promotion examinations across secondary schools in Oyo State. The Oyo State Government set a new promotion policy which meant only students with 50% in Mathematics and English language will transit to the next class. Edo ‎suspends traditional ruler over alleged assault

The Edo State Government on Thursday said it has suspended the Onojie of Uromi, His Royal Highness Anselm O Aidenojie, from office for seven days over alleged assault. In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Peter Okhiria, the Onojie’s suspension was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, and dated October 26, 2016, following the decision of the Edo State Executive Council. According to the letter titled, “Suspension from Office as Traditional Ruler,” the state government explained that the traditional ruler was suspended for an alleged “unprovoked attack, inflicting grievous bodily harm on one Mrs. Betty Okoebor on September 28, 2016 in full public glare to the embarrassment of those present and causing disgrace to your otherwise esteemed office.” The Onojie was alleged to have refused, “even after two weeks, to respond to a query issued by the appropriate authority within the stipulated 72 hours, demon

Naira Exchange Rate Depreciates Thrice In Six Hours

The traders were meeting in clusters, painstakingly trying to unravel the rationale behind the sudden depreciation of the naira after it had appreciated for about four weeks. The Naira exchanged at N467 to the dollar as at 4:30 p.m. after it traded for N455, and N460 in a couple of hours on Wednesday while the Pound Sterling and Euro closed at N560 and N505, respectively. The Nigerian currency, after weeks of sustained appreciation, stabilised at N455 to a dollar prior to its depreciation on Wednesday. At the Bureau De Change window, the Naira was sold at N385 to a dollar, CBN controlled rate, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N553 and N500, respectively. The official interbank market was not isolated from the depreciation fever as the naira lost N1.78 to close at N306.78, from N305 it posted previously. Jay-z set to acquire late Prince’s unreleased songs for $40m

Rap artist and business mogul Jay-Z, has reportedly tried to purchase all the unreleased music of late rock icon Prince, that were discovered at Paisley Park after the singer’s death. According to TMZ, Jay-Z met with Prince’s sister, Tyka, and her husband, Maurice Phillips, several weeks ago. The mogul flew Tyka and Maurice to NYC to meet with him. It was further revealed that Jay-Z made an offer of around $40 million. Tyka who shares same parent with Prince will have to get sign-off from all the brothers and sisters, in addition to the trust that is managing the estate before Jay-Z can get full streaming rights and other rights to get the overall deal.
