Valencia 2-0 Barca: Setien suffers 1st loss as Barca coach, Ter Stegen saves pen

Valencia's Maxi Gomez scored one and created the other to shoot down Barcelona in LaLiga on Saturday.

Match Report
Maxi Gomez atoned for an early penalty miss and fired Valencia to a rare 2-0 LaLiga home win against Barcelona, handing Quique Setien his first defeat as head coach.

Valencia came into Saturday's clash having beaten Barca in just one of their past 10 meetings in all competitions, winning last season's Copa del Rey final, while their most recent league success at the Mestalla came in February 2007.
But the Blaugrana were on the back foot from the outset this time around and, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved a first-half spot-kick, Gomez made amends as his strike shortly after the restart went in off Jordi Alba for an own goal.
Setien's side belatedly rallied, but after scraping past Granada and Ibiza in the coach's first two games in charge, their luck ran out, Gomez getting a goal himself with 13 minutes remaining.

United earlier had a £20m bid for Bournemouth striker Joshua King rejected as the club target cover in the absence of the injured Marcus Rashford, but their pursuit of the Norway international appears to have ended. Inter Milan also wanted to sign Ighalo, when their pursuit of Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud failed, but the Nigerian had his heart set on a move back ...

ADVERTISING inRead  invented by Teads He said, “I think sometimes the corruption indices in Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation are overblown, because sometimes people do not understand the technicalities of what is going on and the short answer is corruption. “I do agree that there were all kinds of sleaze stories in the past, but if you look at the last one year and in the last 13 months, those have dramatically disappeared. “The TSA definitely helped, being able to suck in all our funds in one pond, being able to look at long term focus. “The fact that we have saved over a billion dollars through the Direct Sale Direct Purchase programme, it is someth...
